TYPES OF TRAINING
1. Induction Training: It also known as
pre-job or induction training. This training provides new employee with
information on such matters as company history, policies and procedures, pay
and benefits, conditions of employment, safety practices, names of top
managers, location of various departments, manufacturing process, and work
rules. This training creates self-confidence in the employee. It promotes a
feeling of belonging and loyalty among the employee.
In the words of Flippo, “Induction is
concerned with the problem of introducing or orienting a new employee to the
organisation.”
2. Vestibule training: It is the training on
actual work to be done by an employee but conducted away from the work place.
3. Job Training: This training is conducted
with a view to increase the knowledge and skills of an employee for improving
his job performance. Employees are taught the correct methods of handling tools
and machine used in a job.
5. Crafts Training: This is a training
given to workers in the different crafts. It is conducted by an experienced
craftsman. The learning period is somewhat longer and the method followed for
such training is apprenticeship training.
6. Training For
Promotion: Some employee of high potential are selected and they are given
training before their promotion. This training is provided when vacant posts are
filled up by internal recruitment. i.e. by promotion. It is given when employee
actually occupy the higher posts, so that they do not find it difficult to bear
the higher responsibilities of the new positions.
7. Internship Training:
It
refers to a joint programme of training in which educational institutional and
business cooperate. Selected students carry on regular school studies for period
ranging from 3 to 12 months and then work in some factory or office designed
period of time.
