NEED AND IMPORTANCE OF WORKER’S PARTICIPATION
1. Organisational Effectiveness: If workers are invited to share in organisational problems,
and to work towards common solution, greater degree of organisational balance
occurs because of decreased misunderstanding and individual and group conflict.
Through participation all workers would be able to contribute to the overall
effectiveness of the organisation.
2. Hiring Flexibility: Hiring flexibility is increased as a result of cross
training. Increased coordination among team members also offers a comfort zone
for the newly hired.
3. Individual Growth: Worker’s
participative management enhance worker’s creativity. It improves response to
job challenges. It also improves worker’s natural ingenuity and ability to give
creative ideas. If participation is allowed, workers will be encouraged to
improve their initiative, creativity and expectation. This facilitates
individual growth.
4. Increases Employee Retention: A participative
style of leadership offers employees more than just the opportunity to improve
their income through good performance. It gives your staff members the chance
to be active in determining the future success of the company. Allowing employees
to be active in the growth of the organization encourages those employees to
stay with the company to see their plans result in success. This will improve
employee retention and cut down on the costs of turnover.
5. Remove of Mis-Understanding: Participation helps dispelling employees misunderstanding
about the outlook of management in industry. These misconception would
otherwise die hard and their damaging effect needs no explanation.
6. Choosing Level of Participation: Between the autocratic management style-where management
makes all the decisions and tells subordinates what to do-and a style where
employees make all the decisions, which is often called delegation style, there
are other styles with varying levels of allowing employees to participate in
decision making.
7. Industrial Democracy: Participation
helps to user in an area of democracy in industry. It is based on the principle
of recognition of the human factor. It tends to reduce class conflict between
capital and labour.
