ROLES OF HUMAN RESOURCE MANAGER
To achieve the objective of an organisation, the HR
manager has to perform various roles. Although HRM is still a growing function,
every organisation has a personnel function. A specific HR manager is
designated in big companies who may be charged with fulfilling the various
duties. He may act as a “picnic planner” and as an adviser to top management.
1. As a Mandatory Function: A specialist HR manager advises the different functional
heads on various aspects of personnel function, such as manpower planning,
recruitment, selection, orientation, training, appraisal, compensation etc. He
provides new ideas, suggestion, and information on these matters.
2. For Information Purpose: HR manager provides valuable information about laws,
labour market, routine personnel matters, industrial researches, personnel
policies and other related areas. He knows legal roles.
3. As a Societal Role: He
brings changes in the organisation. He serves as an internal change agent to
initiate improvement in personnel practices. He assists in introducing and
implementing major institutional changes in the organisation.
4. As a Teacher: The
HR manager must be interested in learning and also in achieving growth. He
helps human beings to grow and realize their full potential. He provides
opportunities for his employees to learn and to assimilate new ideas.
5. As a Visionary Leader: HR manager has deep faith in human values. He performs his
duties with sensitivity and empathy. He ponders on his social obligations
towards organisation. He has the ability to reasonably forecast future events
and evolve its vision to meet the coming challenging.
6. For Productivity: HR
manager is considered an expert in human relations. He is regarded as good
motivator and positivity. He is expected to understand the various needs and
aspirations of his employees.
7. The Solution Provider Role: He is a problem solver in respect of issues involving
human resource management. In union-management relations, he acts as fire
fighter and as a shock absorber. He acts for management against trade union
activities. He helps to remove disputes and conflicts between employer and
workers.
8. As an Understanding: The
HR manager possesses the skills to articulate, understand, and communicate
personnel matters. He can conduct fruitful discussion. He can foresee the
personnel problems and has the mental ability to deal with his people in an
intelligible manner.
