IMPORTANCE OF TRAINING
Training of employees and managers are
absolutely essential in this changing environment. It is an important activity
of HRD which helps in improving the competency of employees. Training gives a
lot of benefits to the employees such as improvement in efficiency and
effectiveness, development of self-confidence and assists everyone in self-management. Employees training is
important to organisational because it can make achievement of organisational
goals possible. When successfully conducted, training can benefit the
organisation through increased profitability, improved employee morale and
commitment, increased awareness of goals, an improved organisational image. The
stability and progress of the organization always depends on the training
imparted to the employees. Training becomes mandatory under each and every step
of expansion and diversification.
1. Improve the Quality
of Work: Training
helps in standardizing the methods of work and right use of tools. Uniform work
methods and procedures help to improve the quality of product or service. It
also results in elimination of possible mistakes.
2. Advantages of
standardization: The methods of production are standardized through training. All
trained employees follow same methods and techniques of production and hence
there can be little variation in output and standards produced by different
employees. By using standardized methods, the quality of output would be
increased.
3. Reduced Supervision:
Trained
employees perform with less supervision. Both employee and supervisor want
greater work freedom. But this is possible unless the employee is adequately
trained. Trained people need less guidance and control.
4. Increasing
organisational stability and flexibility: Training provides opportunities for the
employees to learn an acquire skills to work in several departments in an
organisation. Training also results in low rate of labour turnover which means
high consistency in organisations in retaining people for long period of time.
5. Increase in
Productivity: Training improves employee performance. Trained employee use
better methods of work, sound knowledge and good awareness of his goals. It
result in increased quantity of work and output. Training brings about increase
in quantity and quality of goods produced resulting in high productivity.
6. Future Manpower
Need: Through
proper training employees become eligible for promotion handling more
responsibility. An expanding and growing organisation wishes to train the
existing employees so as to place them in higher positions in future.
7. Personal Growth: Training creates a
sense of control over his own personal future. It provides an opportunity to
accomplish personal goals. It builds self-confidence, sense of worth, and work
qualities. It prevents decay of knowledge. It helps to develop people as future
managers.
8. Good Organisational
Environment: Training creates new workplace relationship. It helps to improve
owner-employee relations. Organisational stability is enhanced because of low
employee turnover and absenteeism. Training removes the haphazard, casual, and
misdirected efforts of employee. It makes manpower an integrated part of
management.
